May 28: LSNYC Bankruptcy Assistance Project Training

Posted on

The New York City Bankruptcy Assistance Project (NYC BAP) is part of Legal Services NYC, the largest provider of civil legal services in the United States. Legal volunteers work to save New York’s most vulnerable residents from wage garnishments, property seizures, and foreclosures. We target low-income working families, for whom bankruptcy relief can make the difference between being able to participate in the economy or not.

NYC BAP is seeking law student volunteers for its bankruptcy petitions program over the summer. Volunteers will take an intensive bankruptcy practice training, meet and screen potential clients, and then prepare the clients’ bankruptcy petitions under the supervision of experienced attorneys.

The training is mandatory, and will be held on Tuesday, May 28 at LSNYC from 10:00am-4:30pm and over zoom.  There will be a 45 minute break and lunch will be served. To RSVP for the training, click here or email Alaura Rich (adr9719@mercury.law.nyu.edu) indicating whether you would like to sign up for the in person training or participate via zoom. Capacity is limited for the in-person training. Following the training, if you are interested in participating in BAP, please send your name, email address, and phone number to Alaura Rich (adr9719@mercury.law.nyu.edu) to set up a screener interview.
