Criminal Justice System VR Research Study

Posted on

You are invited to participate in a research study on decision-making in the criminal justice system using Virtual Reality (VR).

The study is conducted by Prof. Oren Bar-Gill (NYU School of Law), Prof. Alma Cohen (Harvard Law School) and Prof. Tom Schonberg (TAU).

Participation is voluntary and is open to law students aged 18 or older at NYU School of Law. Students are not eligible to participate in this study, if they have a medical condition that would make participation in a virtual reality environment inadvisable, including severe motion sickness, epilepsy or a history of seizures, pregnancy, or other conditions identified during screening that, in the judgment of the research staff, would make participation inappropriate or unsafe.

The study will take approximately 30 minutes and will take place at NYU School of Law, on November 5-6, 2026 (with additional sessions on later dates).

During the study, participants will wear a virtual reality (VR) headset, complete several tasks in a virtual environment, and answer a short questionnaire. Eye, facial, and hand movements will be recorded during the VR session.

Participants will receive $20 for completing the study.

If you are interested in participating, please send an email to Stephany Ramos (ramoss@mercury.law.nyu.edu) by Tuesday, November 3, at 11:59pm.
