Now in its 38th year, The North American Law Summit delivers a four day continuing legal education conference, focused on constantly evolving topics within entertainment, sports, media, and IP. Hosted this year at Live Aqua Resort in Cancun, Mexico, the Summit brings together legal professionals, business executives, and law students for four days of in-depth learning and celebration.

Scholarship Information and Instructions:

  1. Background; Summit Dates. The Summit Student Scholarship provides a partial scholarship to law students attending the North American Law Summit (“Summit”), now in its 38th year.  This year’s Summit will take place at the luxurious Live Aqua Beach Resort in Cancun, Mexico from Wednesday, November 11 through Sunday, November 15, 2026.  For more information on the Summit, see www.nalawsummit.com, or find us on Instagram @TheLawSummit.  For more information on the resort, see https://www.fiestamericanatravelty.com/en/live-aqua/hotels/live-aqua-cancun.  
  1. One-Of-A-Kind Opportunity.  The Summit consists of a four-day continuing legal education conference, focused on constantly evolving topics within entertainment, sports, media, and IP.  It brings together legal professionals, business executives, and law students for in-depth learning and celebration.  The Summit agenda includes an opening-night cocktail reception and beachside dinner, and concludes with a closing-night dinner followed by the Empire-sponsored after party and a live concert featuring performances by Summit attendees.  Scholarship recipients will attend all panels, cocktail parties, dinners, and events, and will have the opportunity to engage directly with attending attorneys and industry professionals.  
  1. Eligibility; Scholarship Awards; Accommodations.  Applicants must be currently enrolled in a law degree program (e.g., JD, joint JD program, LLM) and must have completed at least one year of legal study prior to the Summit.  Partial scholarships in an amount not less than $1,000 are awarded to at least four (4) law students.  Scholarship recipients will be assigned double-occupancy hotel accommodations (two beds), shared with another same-gender scholarship recipient.
  1. Criteria.  Scholarships are awarded based on criteria determined by the Summit Scholarship Committee, which may include, but are not limited to, the following:  (a) demonstrated interest in entertainment, sports, and/or intellectual property law; (b) the applicant’s background, relevant experience, and participation in school organizations, teams, and entertainment societies; (c) relevant work experience; (d) academic performance; and (e) responses to application questions. 
  1. Deadline.  All applications must be received at nalawsummitscholarship@gmail.com no later than MIDNIGHT on Thursday, July 23, 2026. Late applications will not be considered. 
  1. Application Format and Order.  All applicants must attach a completed application, cover letter, resume, and transcript as follows: 

(a)  Single PDF Submissions.  Combine all materials into one continuous PDF file.

(b)  Required Order.  Documents must appear in the following order:  (i) Applicant Information Summary; (ii) cover letter; (iii) responses to application questions; (iv) resume; and (v) transcript.   

  1. Acceptance; Timeline.  Scholarship applicants will be contacted via e-mail typically within a few weeks after the submission deadline.  Selected recipients must confirm acceptance within approximately one week of notification, on a date specified by the Scholarship Committee.  Scholarship recipients will coordinate with Summit travel agents to arrange travel and lodging accommodations and will be assigned a roommate.
