Fall 2026 Research Assistant – Prof. Rachel Proctor May (2Ls and 3Ls)
Deadline: October 9 (or until position is filled)
Compensation: $17.00/hour and/or Academic Credit
Professor Rachel Proctor May is looking for an R.A. to help research issues related to AI and educational technology use in schools, and state policies governing adoption of educational technology.
This is a fast-moving set of issues generating a huge amount of coverage. A lot of that coverage is superficial and repeats truisms. I am looking for someone who can not only pull up a list of sources (the robots are good at that) but actually exercise judgment as to the quality of the sources and help me find compelling real-world examples to support or illustrate various points in my argument. Major needs include:
- Examples of educational technology that is not “educational” (e.g., “gameified” learning that is 99% game)
- Academic or policy documents on the differences between well-designed and poorly-designed edtech
- Cognitive science or psychology literature on how technology use affects brain development (particularly in the early grades)
- Cognitive science or psychology literature on how screen-based learning differs from traditional learning (e.g., reading on a screen vs. reading on paper; typing vs. handwriting)
- The current landscape of state AI-adoption and edtech-adoption laws and policies.
Work product will typically be an annotated bullet list or chart. Work will take place on an ongoing basis with deliverables throughout the semester. This can be for either 45 or 90 hours, depending on how much work the student is looking for.

Fall 2026 Research Assistant – Prof. Farr | Deadline Oct. 15 (or until position is filled)
Compensation: $17.00/hour and or Academic Credit
Class Level: 2Ls and 3Ls
Professor Farr is seeking research assistants for the Fall 2026 semester (and potentially for the academic year) to assist on research relating to contracts and slavery. More specifically, assistance is needed with 1) cataloguing appellate slavery cases (available on Westlaw) wherein an enslaver claimed that the person he purchased was unsound, and 2) surveying antebellum jurisprudence on divorce as well as breaches of warranty more generally. The research is for a project that builds on the work in Warranting Violence. Interested students should send a short statement of interest and a brief description of any prior research experience to bfarr@nyu.edu as soon as possible.
