September Volunteer Opportunity: Deferred Action for Labor Enforcement Clinics!

Immigrant and worker rights volunteer opportunity Saturday 9/7 in New Brunswick, accessible by public transit:

Deferred Action for Labor Enforcement (DALE) is a crucial but little-known deferred action program announced by DHS last year. It provides 4-year immigration protection and work authorization to workers at companies under investigation by a labor agency. DALE has the potential to be transformative for undocumented workers and help turn the tide on labor abuse. And with the uncertainty of the upcoming election, this fall represents a crucial window of opportunity to help as many people as possible access this 4-year protection. But in the first year of the program there were less than 2,000 applications nationally, in large part because of a lack of immigration legal capacity. To help address this issue, National Day Laborer Organizing Network (NDLON) is organizing DALE pro se legal clinics with our members to grow access to these important protections.

Please join NDLON, the Mexican Consulate, and New Labor in New Brunswick Saturday Sept. 7, 9:30am-5:30pm to support workers from multiple campaigns in accessing DALE protections, growing their capacity to continue fighting for their labor rights. We seek primarily Spanish-speaking volunteers to work with applicants to complete their deferred action applications. Register hereVolunteers will gain substantive knowledge on an important form of relief for immigrant workers while strengthening skills in direct service provision within an organizing framework. All applications will be reviewed by a supervising attorney before being submitted. Volunteers must speak Spanish (limited spots open for non-Spanish-speaking volunteers), attend the full day 9:30am-5:30pm and attend a virtual training prior to the event. Please email Lwilfong@ndlon.org with any questions!
