Genuine Media and the NYU Journal of Legislation & Public Policy are excited to announce a live podcast taping event: “What Makes a Moral City?” The event will feature an interview with Brad Lander and is open to NYU students and faculty. The event is on Friday, February 6, and attendees can RSVP using this link.

Event Synopsis: This event begins with a recent moment in New York City politics—Brad Lander’s endorsement of Zohran Mamdani during the mayoral primary and the backlash that followed—to examine how moral commitments influence political decision-making and coalition-building. The conversation will then expand to broader questions about what constitutes a “moral city” and how values are embedded in legal and policy decisions governing issues like housing, transit, public safety, and affordability. This program will highlight the normative assumptions that often underlie urban governance. The event invites students and faculty to consider how moral frameworks intersect with law, policy, and democratic practice in the everyday work of governing cities.
