Center on Race, Inequality, and the Law | 2026 Summer Intern

Posted on

The Center on Race, Inequality, and the Law at NYU School of Law engages in research, public education, advocacy, and litigation to advance its mission of shaping how people understand, diagnose, and address issues of race and inequality. The Center’s priorities include: shaping the public discourse and consciousness around race and inequality; addressing the influence of race and inequality in the criminal legal system; confronting the racial justice implications of technology and algorithmic decision-making tools in the criminal legal system and other systems that govern people’s lives; challenging the forces that drive racial segregation and economic disadvantage in communities of color; and infusing legal education with a racial justice lens.

We are seeking applications exclusively from current 1L, 2L, and LLM students enrolled at NYU School of Law for our Summer 2026 Student Internship Program. Student Interns will conduct research into topics around race and inequality for use in advocacy, litigation, and public education under the guidance and supervision of Center leadership; assist with the planning and execution of the Center’s events; and otherwise contribute to the Center’s community-facing work more generally.

Student Interns will be expected to apply for PILC funding to secure financial support for the duration of the summer internship. Student Interns may have the opportunity to meet and work with practitioners, advocates, and scholars engaged in racial justice work. The expected time commitment is an average of 40 hours per week over 10 weeks.  Over the course of the summer, Student Interns will have the opportunity to work to varying degrees with the Center’s Faculty Director, Executive Director, staff attorney, and post-graduate intern.

If you are a current 1L, 2L, or LLM student at NYU School of Law and are interested in applying, please submit the following materials in a single PDF via email to law.race.inequality@nyu.edu  with the subject line “Summer 2026 Student Intern Application”:
