The Intensive Pro Bono Research Projects are a great opportunity to complete pro bono work for admission to the New York State Bar, as well as for students to gain experience conducting international law research and drafting a research report. We are excited to collaborate with domestic and international non-profit and intergovernmental organizations to offer legal research projects for teams of students to undertake intensively during the summer.
The following two projects will be offered over the Spring Break (March 13-19, 2023).
- The International Lawyers Assisting Workers (ILAW) Network
- The project description from the fall can be found here: ILAW x NYU Law Pro Bono Project (March 2023)
- The Allen Institute for AI
- The project description can be found here: Big Science x NYU Law Pro Bono
Each team will be given instructions on the research sought by the organization, and will work intensively over the allocated week to prepare a report. Participating students must commit to seeing the report through to completion, which is likely to involve more than 50 hours of work total, including beyond the intensive week. However, the aim is for the project to be completed within a relatively short timeframe.
Application Instructions
- Please send a brief letter of interest and resume to Carolina van der Mensbrugghe (cv2199@nyu.edu) and Phuong Tran (pt58@nyu.edu). The letter should include which organization you are applying to and why (two letters are required if you are applying to both placements). Please combine your application materials into one PDF, if possible, and include “Pro Bono Intensive Program Application” in the subject line of your email.
- Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and will close on 12 PM EST Friday, February 24. Candidates will be notified of organization selections shortly thereafter.
