Position: Mittal Environmental Law Fellow
Location: New York City
Start Date: August 26, 2025
The State Energy and Environmental Impact Center is pleased to offer a fellowship for two NYU Law students interested in environmental and climate law.
The State Impact Center is a nonpartisan academic center at NYU School of Law. The Center studies and supports state attorneys general, and other organizations and government agencies, and is dedicated to working towards a healthy and safe environment, guided by inclusive and equitable principles.
The Mittal Environmental Law Fellow will assist with the State Impact Center’s research to study, analyze, and develop innovative legal theories that can be applied to protect people and the environment at the state and national level.
This fellowship is designed for promising law students with an enthusiasm for environmental and climate law and policy. The Mittal Environmental Law Fellow will be expected to produce written papers directed at both legal and academic audiences; to assist in convening workshops, talks and conferences; and to engage interested organizations and government agencies in the results of the analysis. In addition to excellent research and writing skills, applicants for the Mittal Environmental Law Fellowship should possess an ability to think creatively, take ownership and meet deadlines, and work as part of a team. Prior coursework and professional experience in environmental, climate, and/or energy issues is valued, but not essential.
The Mittal Environmental Law Fellow will be appointed for one academic year beginning in August 2025 and will receive a $12,500 stipend over the course of the fall and spring semesters ($6,250 per semester). This fellowship is only open to current NYU 2L and 3L students.
