Research on the status of the Special Procedures Issues in Saudi Arabia

The United Nations Resident Coordinators’ Office (RCO) in Saudi Arabia is looking to hire four talented graduate students or recent graduates to each develop an analytical paper on one of the following topics:

  1. Right to Education
  2. Violence Against Women and Children
  3. Rights of Older Persons
  4. Rights of Persons with Disabilities

Using key UN policy frameworks, international treaties, and published reports, these papers will assess the current context in Saudi Arabia and propose policy, advocacy, and monitoring strategies to advance these human rights issues.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Head of the RC Office and the RCO Economist, each consultant will:

  1. Undertake a desk review of relevant UN policy frameworks, treaties, conventions, and reports (e.g., UN 2030 Agenda, Special Rapporteurs’ reports) and create a matrix of key points and best practices.
  2. Develop an annotated outline for the assigned analytical paper.
  3. Prepare an initial draft for consultation with UN KSA stakeholders.
  4. Revise and finalize the paper based on stakeholder feedback.
  5. Develop a set of policy and advocacy actions informed by the final analysis.
  6. Create an M&E plan to track the recommended actions.

Payment Schedule:

  • Deliverables 1 & 2: USD 1,000
  • Deliverables 3 & 4: USD 1,000
  • Deliverables 5 & 6: USD 1,000
