Summer Teaching Assistants
The Graduate Lawyering Program in conjunction with the Office of Graduate Affairs is looking for Teaching Assistants (TAs) during August 2023. Please see the position descriptions below. The Graduate Lawyering faculty will review applications and interview candidates in mid-April.

A. Introduction to US Law
The Graduate Lawyering Program is seeking eight students to serve as Teaching Assistants for the Introduction to US Law (Intro.) class for LLM students, scheduled for August 14 – 25, 2023. In addition to supporting the Graduate Lawyering faculty, TAs will assist the Office of Graduate Affairs with events during Intro. and Orientation. This is a paid position.
Teaching Assistants attend class (9:00 am – 12:10 pm and 1:00 – 2:00 pm on most days) and answer questions during the lunch break and after class. Duties include assisting faculty; responding to students needing extra help; and advising students on selecting courses, making the most of the LLM year, and adjusting to life in NYC. TAs attend pre-Intro preparatory meetings with faculty and Office of Graduate Affairs on Friday August 11, 2023. TAs must also be available to staff some events held during Intro to US Law and during Orientation on August 28.
B. Intensive Workshop
The Graduate Lawyering program is seeking two Teaching Assistants for the Intensive Workshop, scheduled to be held in-person July 31 – August 11, 2023. TAs for Intro to US Law may also hold this position, which is also paid.
The Intensive Workshop is a two-week introduction to the US legal system, which focuses on improving students’ legal English skills. Professor Karen Ross directs the Workshop and teaches Section 1, and Professor Hon. Gerald Lebovits teaches Section 2. T.A.s will alternate one week in each section.
The TAs will attend class (9:30 am – 1:00 pm) and answer questions during the morning break from 11:00–11:15 am and from 1:00 – 1:30 pm. Duties include participating in student group discussions during class, coordinating student communication and meetings, and responding to students with questions about course materials. The TAs should have excellent English speaking and reading skills, as well as a strong background in legal English terminology and knowledge of the US legal system.
Summer Research Assistant
The Graduate Lawyering Program would like to hire a part-time Research Assistant for Summer 2023. The Research Assistant will help us prepare and update course materials for our Introduction to US Law and Introduction to US Legal Practice courses. The Graduate Lawyering faculty with whom you may work include Professors Alice Burke, Susan Chung, Amanda Sen Villalobos, and Judge Gerald Lebovits.
You will research hypothetical fact patterns for exams; research new legal developments in specific areas of law, including Constitutional Law, Civil Procedure, Privacy Rights, and Punitive Damages; and help us revise PowerPoint presentations.
You should have excellent legal analytical skills and English writing skills.
This is a paid position. To receive payment, you must be in the United States during the time you work as an RA.
Current LLM and JD students are eligible to apply for the Research Assistant position.
The start and end dates are flexible within the time frame of June 1, 2023 – August 8, 2023. The hours per week are flexible as well but would typically be around 15-20 hours/week.
