The Climate Law Accelerator (CLX) is a global collaborative hub for research, advocacy, and strategic litigation on the climate emergency, hosted by the Center for Human Rights and Global Justice at NYU Law.
Position description
This position will provide an opportunity to work with Professor César Rodríguez Garavito and TERRA Clinic Supervisor Ashley Nemeth on climate change issues.
The CLX Research Assistant will primarily support the CLX team with research, writing, and case database maintenance. Duties include:
- Conduct research on extreme heat impacts on humans, more-than-human beings, systems (infrastructure, ecosystems, etc.), and their relevance for human rights law;
- Conduct research on miscellaneous climate change topics including cases involving varied climate change impacts, extreme heat policies and initiatives, climate change cost-recovery laws, and attribution science;
- Maintain CLX’s Loss and Damage case database to ensure it is up to date with the latest relevant cases;
- Participate in CLX meetings as needed;
- Assist with miscellaneous tasks as needed (drafting discrete research memos and case studies, planning CLX events, etc.).
The selected applicant will be expected to devote approximately 5-10 hrs/week, on average, to the responsibilities listed above.

Eligibility and Skills Sought
- NYU Law student currently enrolled in any program with availability to join the team immediately.
- Candidates with academic or work-related experience in human rights law, international law, international or domestic environmental law, and tort law are highly encouraged to apply.
- Familiarity with Bluebooking.
- First or second-year law students who are interested in staying in this position for the entirety of 2025 (summer and fall) are strongly encouraged to apply. Nevertheless, third-year law and LLM students are still eligible for this position.
Terms
Research Assistants will be compensated at $16.50 /hour and can be provided academic credit in lieu of hourly pay starting Spring 2025.
