U.S. Tax Court – Law Clerk Interview Days for 2026 Term Clerkships

The U.S. Tax Court will host its Law Clerk Interview Days initiative from Monday, August 25, 2025, through Tuesday, September 30, 2025. We invite you to notify your students about this exciting opportunity and ask that you provide them with the following information:

  1. Application Submission: Students interested in submitting applications should do so electronically via the Court’s website–www.ustaxcourt.gov.  Candidates can submit application packages directly to each participating Judge from August 25, 2025, through September 12, 2025. Applicants should first go to Law Clerk Program | United States Tax Court (ustaxcourt.gov) and click on the link to 2025 Interview Days Portal. Candidates may submit application packets to one or more participating Judges.
  2. Application Materials: Unless the judge has specific application submission requirements listed on the Portal, all students are asked to provide a cover letter, resume, writing sample of no longer than 10 pages, and J.D. and LL.M. (if applicable) transcripts. Letters of reference also may be provided but are not required. All documents should be provided in PDF format.
  3. Interviews: Each Judge will decide whether to interview a candidate.  Not all candidates will be invited to interview.  Interviews will be scheduled between September 13, 2025, and September 30, 2025, via ZoomGov or Teams. Judges’ Chambers will schedule interviews directly with potential candidates. The Office of Human Resources will not have interview-specific information; all information will come from the Chambers themselves.
  4. Notice of Selection:  Judges are asked to hold notices of selection until Wednesday, October 1, 2025, to ensure fairness to all participants when candidate apply to multiple Judges.
  5. Response to Notice of Selection:  Candidates are asked to reply promptly to notices of selection by Judges.   The Office of Human Resources will accept notices of selection from Judges starting on Wednesday, October 2, 2025.
  6. Pre-Employment Processing:  The Office of Human Resources will reach out to selected candidates to complete the Conditional Job Offer, Pre-Employment Processing, and Formal Job Offer phases starting on October 31, 2025.  This process will last until the candidate’s designated start date.
