Speaker Bio:
Gideon Maltz is the Chief Executive Officer of the Tent Partnership for Refugees, having previously served as Executive Director from 2017 to 2021.
As CEO, Gideon shapes Tent’s strategic direction and has cemented Tent as the leading organization working with the world’s biggest businesses to connect refugees to jobs. Under his leadership, Tent has grown its corporate membership to more than 400 large companies in a dozen countries across the Americas and Europe that are committed to integrating refugees into the labor market at scale. In 2024, Tent was recognized as a TIME100 Most Influential Companies honoree. In 2025, Gideon was named the 2025 recipient of The Charles Bronfman Prize, a prestigious annual award recognizing young humanitarians whose innovative work is inspired by Jewish values and has made significant global impact.
From 2021 to 2022, Gideon served as Chief of Staff to Samantha Power at the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). From 2010 to 2017, he served in the Obama Administration as Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy at the U.S. Mission to the United Nations; Director of Human Rights and Multilateral Affairs at the National Security Council at the White House; and Senior Advisor to the Administrator of USAID. Prior to government service, Gideon worked as an attorney in the international trade practice of Hogan Lovells and as a consultant at McKinsey & Company. He has also served as a Junior Fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and a Predoctoral Fellow at Stanford’s Center for Democracy, Development, & Rule of Law.
Gideon has published widely on refugees, human rights, and business, including in CNN, Politico, Fortune, Quartz, Business Insider, Euractiv, Americas’ Quarterly, Current History, and the Journal of Democracy.
A native of South Africa, Gideon came to the United States in 1996, earning a Bachelor of Arts from Yale University and a Juris Doctor from Stanford University Law School.

A Road Less Traveled is a series of career talks featuring practitioners in national security law and policy in candid conversation about their paths after law school. Featured speakers hail from a diverse range of backgrounds—including government, advocacy, private sector, and/or scholarly work—and address both the details of their work as well as a broader view of their career trajectories.
