The Center for Human Rights and Global Justice’s Digital Welfare State and Human Rights team is seeking two research assistants for the Spring semester 2023, to support its work on research and advocacy surrounding the human rights impacts of the digitalization of government. The selected candidates will work closely with the team, providing research assistance on topics related to digital ID, algorithmic governance, and the introduction of digital government service platforms. The work will include legal and policy analysis, desk-based research on the human rights impacts of digital ID systems and digital government platforms, and drafting substantive research memos.
Candidates should have: excellent research, analytical, and writing skills; knowledge of, or interest in, the impact of digital technology on the economic and social rights of excluded groups, including those living in poverty; a commitment to human rights and social justice; and the ability to work with diverse groups of people and organizations.
The preferred start date is January 30, 2023 or earlier, lasting through the duration of the Spring semester. All currently enrolled NYU students (JD and LL.M.) are eligible to apply. The position is to be undertaken either for academic credit, or compensated at $15.00/hour (please note that 1L students are ineligible to be RAs for credit). The selected candidates will be given the title of Human Rights Scholar. Working hours will be flexible, but research assistants would be expected to work roughly 5 – 8 hours per week.
