  • The Office Assistant will be an integral member of the Center. 
  • They will report to the Executive Director, and work as assigned with other Center staff.

Job Description

We are seeking current NYU Law students (first or second year; LLM not eligible) candidates who can demonstrate significant interest in working on communications and social media tasks for all of the Center’s key initiatives, programs and information management:

  • Curating and implementing a social media calendar on a weekly basis to cover all the channels including Linkedin and Instagram
  • Creating fliers and promotional materials utilizing our templates and graphic design guidelines
  • Supporting with website content management (WordPress) 
  • Assisting with Mailchimp newsletter announcements and database management 
  • Generating written communications, recording and cataloging data and organizing documents using Google workspace
  • Assisting with planning and covering on social media center-related events.
  • Providing administrative support to the team as assigned by the executive director

The candidate will have the opportunity to learn about effective communication strategies, program management and leadership in human rights and non-profit context and will have access to private events with human rights scholars and practitioners. The student and the ED will have formal check in meetings 1-2x per semester to discuss goals, changes at the Center, and work performance.  

Required Qualifications:

  • NYU Law student in their first or second year (LLM not eligible)
  • Strong interest and passion for social media, marketing, public relations and communications especially in human rights and social justice context
  • Flexibility, self-initiative, ability to work independently, and demonstrated interest in and knowledge of human rights and social justice
  • Well developed writing skills and excellent communication (oral and written) in English; additional language skills are highly encouraged
  • Proven strong organizational skills mainly using Google Workspace (gmail, drives, calendar, tasks, sheets, slides, forms, and docs), and Adobe PDF. 
  • Versatility and experience in creating design materials and understanding graphic guidelines/brand marketing 
  • Ability to learn/work through platforms to support website management (WordPress) and newsletter/contacts database and management (MailChimp); or demonstrated interest in learning how to use both. 
  • The successful candidate is a detail-oriented, highly organized individual who can execute directed projects and follow instructions. 

Hourly Wage 

$16/hour 

Desired Start Date 

As soon as possible, no later than November 15, 2024.  

Duration

Fall 2024. Contingent upon performance and availability, the position will be renewed for Spring 2025, and a possibility to continue in the position into Summer 2025 as well as the following academic year AY 2025-2026.

Schedule and working hours per week

  • 15-20 hours per week
  • Working hours are typically M-F 11:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. and flexible to accommodate applicants’ class schedules, including exams.
  • Some events may warrant weekend engagements. These will be discussed and coordinated in advance with the executive director
  • A standing weekly meeting is to be scheduled designed to support the student with each week’s expectations and scope of work.
  • The work is primarily in-person with flexibility for remote; per discussion and agreement on a set consistent schedule with the supervisor.

The applicant must demonstrate in these materials:

  • A proven interest in human rights and global issues, as evidenced through education, volunteer and employment opportunities, activism, and/or scholarship.
  • Excellent communication, marketing and social media skills.
  • Ability to take initiative, work well independently and as part of a team 
  • Interest in non-profit organizational management.
  • Excellent and demonstrated administrative and organizational experience.
