How to Request Academic Accommodations

Posted on

The Accessibility Support team in the Office of Academic Services supports equal access to educational opportunities by working with students, faculty, faculty assistants, and administrators to coordinate and implement academic accommodations authorized for students by the Moses Center for Accessibility and Inclusive Culture (“Moses Center”). If you are seeking academic, testing, or classroom accommodations, please follow the steps below:

How To Apply for Academic and Classroom Accommodations

Step 1: Register with the Moses Center

If you have a permanent or temporary disability, your first step is to contact the Moses Center to request academic accommodations (Note: For pregnancy or parenting-related accommodations, please contact the Office of Student Affairs). Be prepared to submit supporting documentation, and aim to start this process as soon as possible – ideally, several weeks before the accommodation needs to be implemented, to allow sufficient time for review.

Step 2: Generate Accommodation Letters for NYU Law

Once authorized, log into the Moses Center’s student portal and generate your accommodation letters for each individual course. Each letter will be automatically submitted to the Office of Academic Services. DO NOT email your accommodation letters directly to professors. This process must be repeated every semester for each course.

Step 3: Request Classroom Implementation

For each accommodation in each course, submit a JIRA ticket to request its implementation. If your accommodation is deemed reasonable for that course, the ticket will be approved and your request will be implemented. Please note: Class recording requests are NOT retroactive.
