New York Law Course Information & Reminder of the Upcoming November 17 Registration Deadline for the December 17 Exam

In conjunction with the adoption of the Uniform Bar Examination (UBE), the State Board of Law Examiners was directed by the Court of Appeals to create an online course, known as the New York Law Course (NYLC), and an online, open book exam on New York specific law, known as the New York Law Exam (NYLE).

NYLC / NYLE Timing – New York

1. Timing: To be certified for admission by the New York Board of Law Examiners, an applicant may take the NYLC and NYLE up to one year before the applicant first sits for the UBE or up to three years after the applicant first sits for and passes the UBE. It is important to note that a passing NYLE score expires three years from the date the applicant received the passing score.
2. Admission deadline: A complete application must be filed with the appropriate Appellate Division within three years of the second day of the UBE, whether taken in New York or another jurisdiction.
3. J.D. students: First- and second-year J.D. students should wait until their third year to begin the NYLC. Completing it more than one year before the first UBE requires repeating the NYLC and retaking the NYLE.
