Description
The NYU Food Impact Program is seeking a Research Assistant (RA) to provide citation support and substance checking for Addressing the Harms of Animal Agriculture through Multilateral Action: A Roadmap to 2050, a forthcoming publication from the Food Impact Program and Center for Environmental and Animal Protection at NYU. The report is being co-authored with the NYU Food Impact Program and partners at the Center for Biological Diversity and Brighter Green.
About the Project and Role
The report sets out the harms of animal agriculture, particularly industrial agribusiness; presents the case for global coordination and examines relevant precedents; suggests a framework for the application of Common but Differentiated Responsibilities and Respective Capabilities (CBDR-RC) to inform that coordination; maps relevant policy levers for international and domestic actors on a roadmap to 2050; and offers a tiered toolkit for national policies, including measures to support a just transition.
The authors aim to complete a final draft of the report by December 2026. Research assistants will support the citation support and substance checking from October through November 2026. Use of AI tools is not permitted for this work.

Research Assistant Responsibilities
- Format citations in Zotero according to the authors’ chosen citation style
- Verify that scientific, legal, and policy claims in the report are substantiated by and consistent with their cited sources
- Prepare pinpoint citations and properly formatted references throughout the report
- Assist with other tasks as needed
Minimum Qualifications/Skills
- Current enrollment as an NYU student (graduate students preferred)
- Strong research and fact-checking skills
- Strong familiarity with Zotero
Preferred Qualifications/Skills
- Coursework, experience, and/or interest in environmental science and sustainability; animal welfare; environmental, administrative, international, or food law; public policy
Schedule
- Approximately 15 hours per week, October – November 2026
- Flexible working hours
Salary Range
$17/hr-$17/hr (min-max) Undergrad
$30/hr–$30/hr (min-max) Graduate
Start Date
September 30, 2026 or as soon as possible.
Evaluations
Performance evaluation will take place at the end of the project.
Location
Remote, with weekly on-site or remote meetings with the authors or a researcher from the Center for Environmental and Animal Protection.

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the hourly base salary range for student employment positions are $17-$18 per hour for undergraduate students and $30 per hour for graduate students. The hourly rate for graduate employees is based on the collective bargaining agreement (CBA) with Local 7902 – GSOC (Covered Graduate Student Employees).
