The Center on Race, Inequality, and the Law at NYU School of Law engages in research, public education, advocacy, and litigation to advance its mission of shaping how people understand, diagnose, and address issues of race and inequality. The Center’s priorities include: shaping the public discourse and consciousness around race and inequality; addressing the influence of race and inequality in the criminal legal system; confronting the racial justice implications of technology and algorithmic decision-making tools in the criminal legal system and other systems that govern people’s lives; challenging the forces that drive racial segregation and economic disadvantage in communities of color; and infusing legal education with a racial justice lens.
We seek to hire rising 2Ls, 3Ls, and LLMs for our Paul Weiss Student Fellowship Program, which will take place during the 2026–27 academic year. Paul Weiss Student Fellows will conduct research on a variety of topics related to race and inequality for use in the Center’s advocacy, litigation, and public education, under the guidance and supervision of Center leadership. Student fellows will also assist with planning and executing the Center’s organizing activities and events.
Student Fellows will receive hourly pay and play an integral role in the Center’s work. The expected time commitment is an average of 10 hours per week during the academic year. Fellows are expected to reserve time for weekly CRIL meetings on Tuesdays from 2:00–3:30 PM and Wednesdays from 1:00–2:30 PM, when NYU Law classes are not in session; occasional conflicts may be accommodated as needed. In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Law, the hourly base salary at NYU School of Law for student employment positions is $17 per hour for undergraduate and graduate students.
