Feb. 26: How to Get a Job in State Government

Posted on

The State Government Initiative and the Public Interest Law Center will walk you through the process of getting a job in state government after law school.  The event will take place on February 26, 2026, 1:15pm-2:15pm, in Room 218 of Vanderbilt Hall, 40 Washington Square Park South.

State governments are increasingly at the frontlines of the major policy issues of our time — from AI to climate to racial justice and more.  If you want to make a difference in these policy areas, state governments are now the battleground.  But it can be hard to get jobs in or around state government directly out of law school.  Agencies and non-profits are looking for staff to start immediately, not after the school year, and most of the postings require prior experience.

There are several key channels available to you, including various honor programs and fellowships offered by various state governments, as well as by NYU.  This event will give you several examples of fellowships and other access points into state government, and an overview on timing and how to prepare to apply for these opportunities.

Lunch will be served.
