Resources for Applying to 1L Summer Diversity Programs (1Ls)

Posted on

As 1Ls start to conduct research and prepare application materials for 1L summer diversity positions, note a variety of helpful OCS resources (*NYU login required to access all materials*):

  • Diversity Forum Panel 2024 Recording (accessible on the OCS Career Videos Site, under “Diversity Programming”): for those of you who missed the panel, be sure to view this presentation featuring law firm representatives from Dechert and Davis Polk, a Penguin Random House in-house counsel, and an NYU 2L who worked as a 2024 1L diversity summer intern. Discussion topics include the 1L diversity application process and how DEI matters impact law students’ and attorneys’ career trajectory.

  • Applying to 1L Diversity Programs Webinar (October 2024) (accessible on the OCS Career Videos Site, under “Diversity Programming” ): this one-hour panel discussion features 2 law firm diversity administrators and includes worthwhile tips shared by an NYU 2L who worked as a summer 2024 1L diversity fellow. Topics covered include where to find 1L diversity opportunities, what firms look for in personal statements, preparing other application materials and for interviews, etc. Students are required to view this webinar prior to meeting with an OCS counselor about their 1L diversity position job search.

For counseling questions, students should contact the OCS counselor who has conducted/will conduct their 1L Career Group Session or send an email to law.careers@nyu.edu to set up a 15-minute drop-in appointment.
