Lawyering Program
FINAL CALL: There are a few spots still available for the upcoming academic year. Interviewing and hiring is ongoing. Lawyering AAPs who have spots open include: Safaa Aly, Femi Fatade, Andrew Larkin, Trace Maddox, and Natalie McCauley. Please apply by August 5.
All rising 2Ls and 3Ls are invited to apply for Teaching Assistant positions for the Lawyering Program. Applications will be accepted from Friday, May 31 through Monday, June 30 via this Google form. You will be asked to upload one PDF containing a cover letter, resume, and writing sample. Interviews will begin after June 14.
You may apply to multiple faculty members. Their profiles can be found on the Lawyering Program’s Faculty and Administration webpage.
We will have seven new faculty joining us next academic year: Safaa Aly, Ronald Coleman, Babafemi “Femi” Fatade, Andrew Larkin, Trace Maddox, Natalie McCauley, and Blakely Simoneau.
Lawyering TAs receive one credit per semester and should be able to attend a minimum of 1/3 of the classes. The class schedules can be found on the course schedules webpage.
Contact Krista Minteer-Baysal at krista.minteer@nyu.edu with any questions.
Graduate Lawyering Program
You may also apply to be a TA for the Graduate Lawyering Program, which serves NYU’s international LLM students. Graduate Lawyering TAs are hired for the fall semester only and receive one academic credit for either a weekly two-credit section or two one-credit sections meeting on alternate weeks. Being a TA for Graduate Lawyering is a great opportunity to get to know students from all over the world, many of whom have already practiced law in their home country.
Compared to JD Lawyering, the Graduate Lawyering course focuses more narrowly on legal research, writing, and analysis, and English is generally not our students’ first language. Graduate Lawyering TAs work closely with faculty in a collegial atmosphere. Under faculty supervision, TAs review students’ written work and provide feedback. TAs also meet with students needing extra help with their writing. Depending on TAs’ interests, TAs sometimes teach part of a lesson or organize social events for the class.
Because Graduate Lawyering sections meet at various days and times throughout the week, TAs need not worry about conflicts with their other courses and can apply without having finalized their fall course schedule.
To apply, please send your resume, transcript, and a writing sample to Caitlin Dean, Graduate Lawyering Administrative Assistant, at Caitlin.dean@nyu.edu. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Irene Ayers, Director of the Graduate Lawyering Program, Irene.ayers@nyu.edu
