The Conference is an opportunity for all NYU School of Law students to submit and present papers on a broad range of issues in international law and human rights, and gain valuable feedback on their work.
- Submissions will be reviewed by the Center and IILJ and select papers will be accepted into the conference’s program.
- Accepted papers will be shared with an interdisciplinary group of scholars and practitioners for feedback.
- Presenters and commentators will engage in discussions around the paper at the event.
- An outstanding paper engaging with human rights issues will receive the 2024 Global Justice Emerging Scholar Essay Award which entails an award certificate and a commitment from the organizing team to support the publication of their paper.

This day-long event will feature students, presenters and commentators, a keynote speaker as well as a networking reception for students and alumni.
Details pertaining to the program and how to attend will be made available closer to conference dates.
scope of presentations/research
We welcome submissions on a broad range of issues, with special consideration given to papers that speak to the following areas of exploration:
- Climate and planetary justice, including climate litigation
- Digital infrastructures, regulation of Artificial Intelligence, global data law
- Space governance
- Human rights and the rise of populism
- Migration and refugees, including climate migration, digital borders, and regulation of migration via digital technologies
- Transitional justice
- Persistent poverty, rising inequality, and human rights in global economic law
- Corporate capture of the regulatory state: implications for human rights and international law
- Innovations in and re-imagining of human rights law and global governance
submissions
eligibility
All currently enrolled full-time students at NYU Law are eligible to submit a paper.
Students associated with the Center for Human Rights and Global Justice as Human Rights Scholar or Fellows through the International Law and Human Rights Fellowship (2023 or 2024) are highly encouraged to submit a paper for presentation.
timeline
- Submissions are required by March 11, 2024 by 5:00 p.m. (ET).
- Selected presenters will be notified by March 18, 2024 of their submission status.
- Conference convenes on April 12, 2024.
