FORGE 2023: Reimagining Global Rights and Justice

Posted on
The Center for Human Rights and Global Justice (CHRGJ) at NYU Law will convene its first annual Future of Rights and Governance (FORGE) Conference, themed “Reimagining Global Rights and Justice.”

November 2-5 2023
NYU School of Law (various locations)

On the 75th anniversary of the UN Declaration of Human Rights, the field of global rights and justice is confronted by unprecedented challenges, from the climate emergency to democratic backsliding, technological disruption, geopolitical instability, polarization and deepening inequalities. We rise to those (and other) challenges through a solution-oriented convening of scholars, practitioners, activists, policymakers from across generations, geographies, and thematic/strategic specializations. This annual conference will provide a space that currently does not exist in the field and is much needed.

FORGE 2023 is a global gathering of scholars, practitioners, artists, scientists, lawyers, policy makers, and more.

In addition to Volker Türk, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, we are thrilled to be joined by a phenomenal lineup of speakers and performers, including:
Judge Hilary Charlesworth, International Court of Justice
Patricia Gualinga, International Relations Director for the Kichwa First People of Sarayaku
Maïmouna Jallow, Writer, Performer, Film & Theatre Director
Ivan Krastev, Board Chairman, Center for Liberal Strategies
Kevin A. Ormsby, Dancer, Choreographer and Artistic Director of KasheDance
Ricken Patel, Human Rights Activist
Jonathan Rowson, Co-Founder & CEO of Perspectiva
Ayisha Siddiqa, Youth Climate Advisor to United Nations Secretary General
Kathryn Sikkink, Ryan Family Professor of Human Rights Policy, Harvard Kennedy School
Siva Thambisetty, Associate Professor of Law, London School of Economics
