The C. Bainbridge Smith Scholarship provides scholarships to law school students who are residents of New York City, demonstrate character, intelligence, and promising aptitude for the law, and face a special economic disadvantage (including lack of funds, or physical or cultural limitations).
Scholarship recipients will have the award of $5,000 directly disbursed to their law school to offset the cost of tuition. Blank applications for the scholarship can be found here.

Frequently asked questions regarding the scholarship are below:
1.Can a student awarded full tuition be eligible to participate?
No. This award goes directly to the law school for payment towards the student’s tuition.
2. May the scholarship funds be applied to other law school costs (i.e., fees) besides tuition?
No. This award goes directly to the law school for payment towards the student’s tuition.
3.What does it mean to be “a resident of New York City”?
Students must establish current residency in New York City by February 2023, when scholarship awards will be announced. One can maintain permanent residency in their home state.
4. Are LLM applicants eligible?
No. Only law students in their first, second, or third year of law school may participate.
5. Does immigration status matter?
No. We only require students to be current residents of New York City.
6. Is there an age limit?
Applicants must be 18 years or older.
