Panelist Bios:
Sharmeen Morrison (JD 2019)
Sharmeen Morrison is a senior associate attorney with the Earthjustice’s Biodiversity Defense Program, where she has worked on issues affecting manatees, wild pollinators, and Mexican gray wolves. Prior to her work with Biodiversity Defense, she focused on drinking water contamination as well as oil and gas pipeline issues. She received her J.D. from NYU School of Law, where she was a Root-Tilden-Kern public interest scholar and served as Diversity and Membership Editor on the NYU Law Review.
Before law school, she worked as a litigation assistant with the Natural Resources Defense Council in San Francisco. She received her B.A. in Sociology from the University of California, Berkeley.
Dave Inder Comar (JD 2005)
Dave Inder Comar is the Executive Director of Just Atonement Inc. He is also the managing partner of Comar Mollé LLP, a corporate technology firm with offices in San Francisco and New York.
Mr. Comar has been involved in corporate technology, human rights, and international law for more than fifteen years. He holds a law degree from the New York University School of Law, a Master of Arts degree from Stanford University and Bachelor of Arts degrees from Stanford University. He is currently a PhD candidate at Leiden University researching the intersection of climate change and the right to self-determination of peoples.
He is licensed to practice in California, New York, and the United States Supreme Court. He also makes appearances before United Nations mechanisms in New York and Geneva.
Al Huang
Al Huang became the Environmental Justice Director at NYU’s Institute for Policy Integrity in 2021, after working at the NRDC for 17 years, where he directed Environmental Justice work. His work utilizes a model that focuses on providing legal and technical assistance, when invited, to grassroots groups in low-income communities and communities of color facing disproportionate burdens, such as toxic pollution. The foundation of his work is deeply rooted in the Principles of Environmental Justice and Jemez Principles for Democratic Organizing, where social change comes from the ground up.
During his time at NRDC, he guided the growth and development of environmental justice and equity work institutionally, while also litigating cases on behalf of environmental justice communities around the country. He also provided legal, policy and technical assistance to countless community-based grassroots organizations.
He received his J.D. and Masters degree in Environmental Law & Policy from Vermont Law School, and his B.A. from Hamilton College.
Katrina Wyman
Professor Katrina Wyman is co-faculty director of NYU Law’s Frank J. Guarini Center on Environmental, Energy and Land Use Law, and faculty director of the Law School’s LLM program in Environmental and Energy Law. Her recent research has addressed a range of topics, including the role of cities in environmental law in the US and abroad, and the development of novel forms of property.
She has undertaken case studies of the evolution of emissions trading, and property rights in fisheries and taxi licenses. She has also worked on the Endangered Species Act and the policy and legal responses to the possibility that climate change might prompt large-scale human migration.
Wyman teaches a range of courses in property and environmental law, and was awarded the Podell Distinguished Teaching Award in 2020. She has a BA, MA, and LLB from the University of Toronto, and an LLM from Yale Law School.
